Here is a round up of the Warid Telecom Launch of 23rd May, 2005.

PreLaunch at 11:00 pm on 22nd May, 2005 (Research)
- WaridTel.com says "Comming Soon..."
- Web Development/Hosting Contract: Connect2Web.com (Mr. Asif)
- Currently the site is hosted on "Windows Server 2003"
- IP Address: 66.201.122.140
- Registered Name of Subnet: "WARID TELECOM , Celluar Service Provider and LDI Company In Pakistan"
- IP Range registered: 61.5.137.128 to 61.5.137.255
- Other known sub-domains: webmail.waridtel.com, mail.waridtel.com, jobs.waridtel.com
- Other known sites: http://61.5.137.2/ (Server Iron)

The day of the launch: 23rd May, 2005

5:30 am
- Ok it's early morning... I checked with their website...
- WaridTel.com is currently down (Not opening)
- Tried DNS resolution: Success
- Ip resolving to 66.201.137.137
- The webserver on 66.201.137.137 seems to be down...

6:30 am
- After a little while
- Ok the news paper is here
- DAWN Front page: Telenor welcome Waird Telecom (Hehe... oye! where is warid?)
Wasnt it supposed to be on the front page?
- Flip, ok... Here is Alwarid... Page2.... Full Page LAAAL! (Red)
- Ok... I can see a lot of french black ants marching over the red curtain on this page.
Initially they were claiming to make things simple but that just doesnt seem to be the case.
- In this full RED page Alwarid and anounces

  • "Rs 1.5 for friend" ... oh hello?!? Whats that! For friend what?
  • "Rs 2 on net" .. and whats on net? Heck!? What does this mean?
Such a vague tariff... I figured this would be "on same network"
  • Rs. 3 for calls anywhere is Pakistan.
  • Rs 0.5-Rs 1 for SMS (Warid baba... yeh wording say kiya samjh ayega?)
  • Zero line-rent available on PostPaid
  • Pay per 30 seconds rather than per minute
  • Further discounts on off peak calling (22:00 to 07:00)
  • Excluding Tax
Ok so, these were the wordings on that BIG RED add they placed on Page-2 of DAWN on the day of the launch.

First of all, the ad is too vague... Having read all that can anyone answer me whats the call and SMS rate for WaridTel? Heck!? I think this is the most un-friendly ad ever! Even Telenor's welcome ad for Alwarid was much better!

And would anyone tell me where did the saturday/sunday free, free SMS and Free night calling go? Haha, now thats what I call a rumour... I wonder if Telenor actually made their SMS free because of this rumour.

8:00 am
- Main zamzama road full of red clothes on all poles. Giving a look of a Bull Race about to begin in Spain.

1:00 pm
- Oops the website is still down... Same situation as at 5:30am

3:00 pm
- ok the site is up... Alwarid has in total 4 pages and each page a total of around 1 MB of BMP graphics...? Hello?!!? this site is supposed to be loaded in a third world country?! aka Pakistan!

People get annoyed when they arent able to send a simple 1 liner email from their gmail accounts! How could they ever load pages with 1 MB Windows Bitmap (BMP) files!

- Ok so the main page wouldnt stop loading... Seems the flash thing is too big... I'm getting a download speed of 600KB/sec... It's been more than 30 minutes the SWF (Flash file) on their main page still isnt complete (Progress: Page Loading)... I'll stop here...

If the main page doesnt have any animation/sound/interactive menus, I wonder why they couldnt put that ladys' picture as JPEG image instead of a never ending SWF file...

- In short the website is a gola gunda, their advertising scheme was a mess! However its pre-mature to judge them on their service...!

Did anyone get the WaridTel connection?
Ok folks... All the Alwarid fans... Game Over... Better luck next time! Another licence?

The template is sick...

It seems that this blogger template has totally losted it...
Its like a belly dancer dancing all over the browser when you open it in Internet Explorer...

I'll take a few days time, might as well shift to Word Press now...

Why are the streets all empty?

Day and Night...

God made Night, so thee may rest!
God made Day, so thee may work!

The night is gone, the dawn is awaited...

But thee missed both...
And thought, The Work was done...
But you couldnt hear...
... how would you know?

Thee projected what you wanted on a curtain
... through which thee see not!

it's too late to sleep!
Too early to work...

Another night gone... Lessons learned:
Dont interfere with with the forces of Nature and what He has ordered for you. Goto sleep! Theeh have till dawn, to rest your machine... and then another day for thee to work, pray and sleep...

Telenor Pakistan and Waridtel Face On!! Free SMS?

Tick tick tick... beeeeeeep.....

Its 12th May, 2005. Warid Tel aka Al-Warid Telecom (www.waridtel.com) is to launch operations in 28 cities of Pakistan with a pre-subscriber base of 1.5 Million subscriber...

Be reminded, this is the same group from UAE that owns Bank Al-Falah and United Bank Limited of Pakistan. Whats next?

Telenor having spent hardly 2 months since its launch just anounced today that it has waived off the SMS and MMS charges for all subscribers. (MMS limited to telenor-to-telenor, SMS limited to networks in Pakistan only).

The news is believed to be a side effect of the rumours that earlier gripped the Waridtel fans, that WaridTel is to offer Free SMS, Free calls warid-to-warid every saturday and sunday and would also distribute free connections amongst Bank-AlFalah credit card holders besides the employees of Al-Falah and UBL.

I tried the free SMS from my Telenor number, it does reach, but the lag keeps gitting bigger... I'm not too sure if Telenor would be able to maintain their quality of service.

Let's wait for the morning and see what the newspapers have to offer for WaridTel...
