Interesting facts on Telenor Pakistan, Mobilink GSM, Paktel GSM, Ufone GSM...

I just got my telenor connection... having experienced all the four GSM networks of Pakistan, I think i'm in a situation where I can comment about their pricing and service.

Firstly, Mobilink (May Be Link) sent an SMS to all its custommers today stating

"Breaking News for jazz Customers: ALL calls to ALL networks, at local rates. Outgoing airtime for only Rs.3.5/min for ALL calls! Aur Sunao!"

And people thought, Mobilink was back in... It's simply a CHEAT! Do u see the word "AIRTIME"? So they dont have to give a * any more... No, not even the one which requires a 16X microscope... they are saying the truth, but a totally twisted... I tried to dial a Ufone number from my Mobilink number when the balance reached Rs.6.5, failed... Not enough balance...

3.5/min Airtime for ALL calls to ALL networks... What's Airtime? Simply the charges that you pay to speak from you phone, irrespective of where you called... It's simply for the communications from your mobile to the Mobilink server (or any other network) from where the call is re-routed through the existing PTCL infrastructure to your destination...

So do you pay only Rs.3.5/min when you call from a Mobilink Karachi number to a Lahore Land Line?

No you pay Rs.3.5/min airtime and around Rs.12/min for PTCL NWD charges from Karachi to Lahore... Mobilink just hides this, as does PaktelGSM...

I worked around with Telenor, and the case is different for Telenor Pakistan. It doesnt use the word "airtime" anywhere in its packages... After experimenting a few numbers, I have concluded that ALL calls to ALL networks (even long distance PTCL fixed lines) are for Rs.4.5/min from Telenor...

This 4.5/min also uncludes the 15% CED, NWD charges and the Air time...

Where as the rates advertised by
PaktelGSM as 3.75/min
MobilinkGSM as 3.5/min
UfoneGSM as 3/min , 1.5/min
are just AIRTIME charges...

so simply add 15% CED (tax) charges in the above mentioned rates to get the Paktel to Paktel, Mobilink to Mobilink and Ufone to Ufone Charges...

What about other networks? Besides Telenor, all other networks are also applicable for NWD/PTCL charges...

That means if you dial a local fixed line number from any of the above mentioned packages, simply add Rs.2 per 5 minutes in the above mentioned AirTime charges...
Similarly, if you make a Lahore PTCL call from a Karachi Mobilink, you will have to add Rs.12/min in addition to the above mentioned AirTime charges (Not in Telenor)

Telenor has exempted all this... In reality, PaktelGSM and MobilinkGSM have joined to Liar's club by deceiving its customers about AirTime and actual call charges...

My Choice: Telenor (if you have a plenty of long distance and other network calls)
Ufone: Girl-Friend, Boy Friend.... Both have Ufone, speak for Rs.1.5/min after 10pm
Mobilink: For people who just dial Mobilink numbers, (companies?)
PaktelGSM: Not recomended...

0345 after all, a good report but this post needs to be prominetnly displayed in DAWN so that people read and learn the reality and not just fooled by astererix marketing.

I honestly think people are aware of these gimmicks but are helpless they consider changing phone numbers analogous to like changing your kids a BIG NO NO !!!

I await when the mobile number portability comes into effect then you will see cut throat competetion and all these five providers will beg for your confidence. That will surely make my day.

Any news on Mobile Number Portability, or is it beign blocked by the older giants.

I'm not too happy with Telenor's service. For some reason, when I'm home, the i can rarely make calls to other networks beasides telenor... Telenor to Telenor seems to be working fine.

They have crappy Customer Relations Service,(600 people at Call Center, I've heard) the call rarely connects and if it does you're put on hold for a century and if you finally get to speak to a rep the line disconnects before you've explained ur prb.
GPRS gets disconnected by the server..arrggghhh!
(sorry for a long post. The service providers are exasperatingly annoying!! Need to vent out! )

let me to explain these interconnect and airtime scenarios.
when u call Mobilink to Mobilink ( Local + NWD ) ( Airtime + Tax ) 3.50/- + 0.52 = 4.02 Rs per Min

Mobilink to Other Network
( Local + NWD ) ( Airtime + CPP+ Tax)
3.50/- + 2.00/- + 0.82 = 6.32 Per Min

Mobilink to PTCL
( Local + Nwd ) Airtime + PTC charges for 5 min + Tax )
3.50/- + 2.10 ( per 5 Min ) + 0.73 = 6.33 Per Min

Telenor is just charging Airtime + TAx i-e 3.99 + 0.61 = 4.60/- but TElenor is not Simply works everywhEre .it SUCkz when u go out from karachi

MObilink is the Largest Cellular Company Of Pakistan with largest Coverage throughout the Nation and largest SMS Coverage throughout the World.

NO ONE CAN BEAT MOBILINK

infact TELENOR is not a Competitor Of MObilink GSM , Mobilink is charging More enough as compare to TeleNOr becou'z MObilink is giving you better Coverage then OthErs

i use PaktelGSM...but only at night...and the cost is cheap..Rs. 1.23 (paktel to Paktel) and surprisingly there aren't that many problems as anticipated. :P....

Or perhaps the image is so bad, that even a slightly better than expected service, recieves a WOW!!

Btw, Ufone is not 1.5..it's 1.79 Rs. a mins. for Ufone to Ufone. Paktel's the cheapest.

I have all three and my rating is as follows:-
1. MOBILINK
2. PAKTEL GSM
3. UFONE

I dont know why people including yasir under estimates PAKTEL GSM ? ?
Paktel GSM is much much better than ufone both quality wise and price wise.. Mobilink is the best of all times.. Lets hope best for Telenor & Warid.

Hi there Gulz n Guyz!

A very nice report indeed. I would like to take this efforts a bit forward. I have been using and spending a LOT LOT on all Five GSM service providers. For my own calculations I developed an excel sheet which I would like to share with you people as well to make your decisions easier. The excel sheet will give you your monthly expenses (bill) on all GSM networks (Pre-Paid and one Basic Post Paid) when you enter your tentative Peak/Off peaks minutes and number of SMS per month. This might be a big help if any one of you wants to decide on which service to get or just for information about the trick these people play with us. The calculations sheet is also attached which you can update in case any service provider change their rates. The sheet can be downloaded from the page http://www.bawanja.8m.com/news/gsm.html
